What is Order of the Dragon?
Order of the Dragon (OOD) is a Diplomacy variant for ten players set in the 15th century. OOD incorporates more advanced features such as Diplomacy Points (DP), Heirs, Minor Neutral Powers, Thrall Powers, and Vassal Powers. Many of these features were introduced in another variant, Saga of the Nine, and much of the rules text is identical. OOD is comparable in complexity to Ambition & Empire (VonPowell, Kase, & Ronke), the variant that originated the Diplomacy Points mechanic (DP).
Variant Features
- 10 players
- 50 Supply Centers (18 needed to win)
- Diplomacy Points (DP) allocations to control Neutral Minor Powers, Thralls, and Vassals
- Neutral Minor Powers: stationary units occupying neutral SCs whose orders are set via secret
- Heirs: special non-combat unit type used to create new Thrall & Vassal powers via marriage.
- Early Elimination: players that lose all Heirs and their Capital are eliminated, converting their remaining SCs to new Neutrals.
